But so isabout 80 percent of the country so what else is new? This sort of thing rarelyworks for me but I don't really have any other choice. Bottom line is Ican't really afford anything anymore, I have a job at Old Navy but it barelyeven pays for my rent let alone things like food. I'm not making money somuch as losing less money than I would if I was unemployed. On top ofthis I have to pay over 600 bucks for my dental surgery, I owe my old roommatemoney, I need to pay 120 for the convention table at C2E2, and in order to evenGO to Chicago for C2E2 I need to pay like a 400-500 dollar ticket.

We (MindWave Comics) almost weren't able to even pay to print ourbooks because the bank somehow lost a huge chunk of our money, but luckilysomeone was kind enough to invest in us to get us over the hump. Sohere's is my call to attention, my Commissions are open, they always were, andwill be for quite some time. I understand a lot of you all are broke too,but if you like my style or know somebody who might like it please send theword out.

My version of "JUST US" the original name of DC's Young Justice. I wanted the line-up to consist of characters that aren't currently present in any DC cartoons on television. The line-up is as follows: Impulse, Robin (Tim Drake), Static, Wonder Girl (Donna Troy), Ravager, and Cyborg as the team mentor.

Donna Troy's suit is derived from the new Wonder Woman outfit, because I always thought that her new look suited Donna better than Diana.
Cyborg I can of just went all over the place, with the design in mind for animation I think it's too busy so at some point I'll have to go back and tone it down.

Mythology Comic

Hey, so this is a short comic I did for my final presentation for Mythology Class pretty much going over the Greek tale of Zeus freeing his brothers and sisters from Cronus' captivity (Cronus swallowed them in his belly), then inciting a war against the Titans, and finally acquiring the lightning bolts for the first time. This comic is far from perfect and has a host of problems, but I think it turned out alright in the short amount of time I had to create the thing. Because of everything I had to do, I only got to work on this for a few days so it was very rushed. That and also I colored and lettered the entire thing in one night (got no sleep at all). I want to use this in the future, so when I get the chance I'll fix it up and probably throw in another page between 2 and 3 just to flesh out the story more.

And let this be a lesson to you guys, if you're ever doing a comic project that requires a narrative make sure you write the script out first, or it will be difficult trying to come up with words to fit your images.

PS - Also I realize now that I mispelled the word "Throne" as thrown. I apologize to the artistic, linguistic, and grammar community.

Birthday to Remember

Yesterday I turned 22, and it was a momentous occasion but not at all in the way I had hoped. Being stung by a bee for the first time in the neck wasn't much fun, and having to spend an all-nighter working in a dark window-less animation department was even less so. But all of that I could handle, what I couldn't handle was learning that one of my all-time heroes and inspirations Dwayne McDuffie had passed away.

Dwayne McDuffie was co-creator of Milestone comics, creator of characters like Static and Icon, and overall a very gifted writer who worked in comics and animation. As a little kid I read comics every now and then but I wasn't at all big into them, more into cartoons, but then I was given a ton of Milestone comics and something sparked inside me. It was really the first time I personally had ever seen comic titles featuring black heroes as main characters leading the story. They weren't tokens, they weren't sidekicks, they weren't back-up but actual title characters.

People may think my character the Bolt is taken from Black Lightening but it really was inspired by Static. I'm one of those fans that hates it when people call him Static-Shock because thats the name of the show, and there was a character that existed long before that. I had a ton of comics, I had first issues, I loved watching the cartoon, and it definitely influenced the creation of my character when I was around 10 or 11.

This was extremely depressing and even had me tearing up. I have always really wanted to meet this man and tell him thank you and just shake his hand, and I knew it was in the realm of possibility because I'm closer into the world of comics and animation now. Unfortunately I won't ever get that chance. So it was the lowest point of my birthday to find out this trailblazer passed away, but now every birthday I have will remind me of how great this guy was to the industry and how he helped inspire me do what I'm doing today. I hope one day in the future I can be half as cool as Dwayne was and inspire somebody else like he did me.

Last Spring I had a comicbook scripting class and our final project was putting together a pitch packet for a possible comic. This was mine, it was titled "10" and was at its base a rip off of Smoking Aces and influenced by the game Assassin my friends played in high school. As corny as it kinda was it was still fun to throw together and create characters for, it would've been an over the top action/explosion/blood/gun fest.

Here's the comic i did for Zuda, TECHNO INSECTO, all pages including word bubbles. At first it started out pretty hot being in the top 3 for the first week, but then it quickly dropped to 7th place and stayed there. Apparently not enough happened, the dialog was too cheezy (but i did that on purpose), and it was too much like Guyver (but believe it or not, being the nerd that I am I had never seen Guyver before in my life so... yeah). Anyway, just because Zuda wasn't a fan doesn't mean I'll stop the story, I got plans for Techno Insecto so be on the lookout for him in the future.

Water Color Project for Mat Tech

For my Materials and Techniques class we had to do a watercolor page on top of inks on top of pencils. I really hate watercolors but you gotta do what you gotta do. Here's my step by step process:

First off I did blue pencil, and some red pencils. I got ahead of myself and started on graphite before I was done with the blue line.

Then I do everything in Graphite, some people won't recommend this but I used mostly a mechanical pencil, I used some other sizes or artists pencils as well.

Next was Inking, the blue is where I taped off the edges of the picture. I used different sizes of micron, white ink, brush pen, and higgins black ink.

Last was dreadful watercolors. I know the coloring isn't great, I learned this in the critique but I've never had a nack for water colors and no matter how much I work with them I don't really progress. it's not fun or enjoyable for me so I stay away from them. People can do amazing things in water color, don't get me wrong, I'm just not one of them.

In the end I think I got an A on this project, but probably more of an A for Effort type deal. Just a hint to everyone, NEVER buy me watercolors. I hope to god this is the last watercolor project i have to do but I doubt it, there is never a last one.

I usually get annoyed when I see people that never draw original characters and only do fan art so for several years I had drawn nothing but my own original characters. But since people kept asking me to draw certain figures I decided for a whole month every day I'd draw a new famous character I had never drawn before in my life(dont like to call it "fan art" because that makes me sound like a fan boy and that I am NOT). Decided to make a fun picin between doin homework, and now all my free time is gone. its me, andrew m, amanda j, michael w, and solomon slaying badly drawn mutant zombies. this was super fast and sketchy. unfortunately i didnt get to put in all the weapons that were mentioned/requested : bayonet, a mace, flame thrower, rocket launcher, stinger missile, swords, or tazers; but hopefully this will suffice. BOLT VS WONDERBOY

Project for my Materials and Techniques for Sequential Arts Class, I got to sneak in some familiar characters. The one spouting lightning is my character Bolt, and the dude with the W is my friend Dave Wheeler's original character Wonderboy who we are in the process of making a book for: http://themisadventuresofwonderboy.blogspot.com/. does this mean crossover???? Who knows!?! you'll have to find out. I always forget to take pictures of all the steps I take when i draw, but this time I at least took two;
this was after a day I believe, even tho I started with pencils I was still doing a lot in blue pencil.

second day I devoted the entire day to this because it was due the next morning, I got a lot more black pencils in there but there was still much more to be done. this might've been around 10 or 11pm.
Finished at 4:30 am, went to bed for 4 hours got back up, scanned this then went to class. Next time I do a big project I'll try to remember to take more photos.

Yo, I just saw 9 and let me tell you it was DOPE!!! It was dark, suspenseful, and mysterious. The animation was on point and I was into the story. This movie had me on edge, I was anxious, scared, it was action packed, and I got emotionally attached to some of the characters. Over all this movie was really cool and like they say, it's not your little brother's animated movie. Glad i went to see it, you should go see it too.

TECHNO INSECTO preview

Zudacomics.com holds a competition every month that allows ten 8paged comics to be voted on by the website members (anyone can join btw), if you win you get commissioned to turn your submission into a full out book. but even if you just get selected to be a finalists (one of the ten) then u still get 500 bucks. i thought this would be a great opportunity to put money in my empty pockets and work on a atory i had in mind for a while now. Unfortunately, i figured this all out way too late.

I started working on this last week tuesday and had to get all 8 pages done (penciled, inked, colored, worded) by moneyday(yesterday). i thought i had enough time, but as it turned out, i was also going out of town on saturday taking me away from my computer, scanner, and wacom tablet and leaving me with only 4 days to get it all done. I thought i could do that too but on top of cleaning up the house getting ready to leave and taking care of my brothers that just did NOT happen.

But i'm kinda glad i couldnt. I mean i wanted to get it all done but its better i have a whole month to get it done in great quality for next time and possibly make it in as supposed to having 4 days to rush it and throw whatever crap i can together and probably not make it in. so i have time to turn it in for next month, but now i'll show you what i got so far. I managed to fully color 4 pages, no text has been added yet, but hopefully the imagery will get ya excited for whats to come:

First off, I know its the end of Black History Month but its also the first little amount of free time i've had all month to do this.

I don't know about you but in my eyes it seems like Black History Month was completely over looked this year. No reminder of it in any for of media came my way and i think its ridiculous. But then i read something online which explains it. People have taken Barrack Obama's election as black history for this month. Yes, his being elected as the first African American President of America is indeed a historical event, but that doesn't mean Black History Month is over. Some people think that since we do have an African American President that we accomplished our goal and therefor don't need Black History Month anymore. That's bull, Black History Month is about not forgetting who brought us here and made a difference for people today. I would be a different story if Black history became equally talked about through out the entire year but thats NOT the case. Not in any of my art history classes do we talk about ANY black people, no lie. Last year we got done reading about renaissance and literally skipped 100 pages all containing art history about Africa and Asia. All i'm saying is don't forget and don't let Black History Month disappear. Its too important. And this goes to EVERYBODY not just black people.

And I'm also reminding you all that you can make history, that's why today i put together a picture of all my black superheroes not just in comics but in real life. Thank you for reading and stay strong.

In Animation 2 now and we're working with the 3D generator program Maya. This is our first project(we've done other small exercises) where we're supposed to take a ball and make it move and give it emotions. It was a pain in the but but fun to play around with and mess with camera angles.

Finally, its done, after 3 weeks, 320 drawings, 560 frames i give you 23 seconds of some of the best animation i've done ever! well, some of the only animation i done ever. Hope ya like.

I didn't get the box perfectly how i wanted it to be among other things, there's always room for improvement but i've been getting good reviews so far.

When the original crew is out in space policing the universe, a new team has to step up and protect earth from its every day foes. Mountain Dew had a contest this month to create bottle art design and possibly getting it placed on their bottles, prizes could go up to $1000. Of course being the broke college student i am decided to work my butt off along with all the other work i had to do for classes to try and get this done. Only to learn that when i try to submit it today Friday the 31st(which i believe was the original deadline) do i find out that it iwas in fact two days ago on the 29th.

So this is it, what i lost sleep over and waisted hours of my life on for NOTHING. No more of this crap, i'm saying screw it. Every time i try to do a contest lately something screws up or too much work gets in the way. This is my LAST contest submission thingy from now own, i don't wanna deal with this bull anymore because it keeps turning out to be a waste if my freakin time. NO MORE! hope you enjoy this crap.

Not Just A Bouncing Ball...

My animation class has been studying the bouncing ball and we've drawn sevral clips of it to learn about animating gravity, motion, and squash and stretch. This is the fourth project where the bouncing ball could be whatever.

(for some reason when i play it, it speeds up really fast but then plays normally after i click it a second time, just so you know)

I have 3 other clips of bouncing balls but i didn't post them because none of them are as exciting as this one. This took me hours to finish but it turned out better than i expected and i LOVE IT!

Post Apocalypse...

Finally it's done, here's my small comic piece i did for a Post-Apocalyptic Anthology book. it has taken forever but now its finally done! it's also sort of a prequel to a story i have in mind set several more years later after this the war is ongoing but the human runaways have become soldiers and are fighting for the survival of their race.. Enjoy!

synopis: Somewhat in the future, let's say 20 years, robots have flourished as man's greatest servant and accomplishment. but at one point machine decides that man is insufficient and must be replaced, by them. When that occurs the robots search and kill as many people as they can find and one by one take on their appearance and live their lives as a human would.
The comic takes place several days after the take over has occurred and follows a group of humans who have just escaped an ambush and are trying to make it out of the city to refuge.

And Finally, The last installment of the Color Theory Project that has plagued my entire weekend. Way of the warrior, the Blind-folded warrior. This piece was supposed to use a color scheme from another piece of art, the art i chose from was Picasso's "The Old Guitarist" from his blue period. I hope i pulled it off, and hopefully I'll get a good grade on this. This thing took me all day, ok more like 8 hours but you get the point.

This is part of a project I'm doing for Color Theory Class. I'm supposed to make three different images utilizing different color, tones, and saturation schemes. other than that it's free for me to do what i want but they all have to be related somehow, so I'm making three images of warriors (like my street warriorz) and I'm putting the word "warrior" in graffiti in the background of each of them.

This is my first one so far, it's supposed to show tones and shades and not much saturation. took me around 4 days to finish cuz of other homework, now i have to finish the others in two days!

Hey Everybody, welcome to my Blog-Spot, this is Sketch Master Skillz's number 1 blog entry (exciting huh?). I'm at the Savannah College of Art and Design and I'm hopefully gonna double major in Animation and Sequential Art(comic books stuff).
I'll go over a little of what you can expect on this blog: There will be alot of art on here that i work on, sketches, photoshop stuff, comics, or whatever. But some people don't know that i also write, so there may be some short stories and poetry on here.
